Dreamee Cakes wasn't part of my original plan. I used to work in an office until I moved to South Africa in 2019, just before the country went into lockdown. During that time, I started playing around with different ideas, mostly centered around food, desserts, and cakes.
In May 2021, some friends asked me to make a birthday cake for three friends celebrating their birthdays close together. It was my first big cake project, and I was both excited and nervous about taking it on. The baking part was fine, but I had trouble with the buttercream. We went to the store multiple times to get more butter, thinking we had ruined the batch, only to find a quick and easy fix. Little did I know, that day would change everything. I became more and more interested in baking and started trying out different cake flavors while perfecting my buttercream recipe for a smooth and balanced taste.
After a few months, my following started to grow rapidly, with thousands of new followers joining each day. Other bakers from around the world began reaching out to me for advice and tips. Some even asked for baking lessons, which I started doing online. Although I was nervous at first, I became more comfortable with baking and decorating over time. Eventually, a supplier noticed me and asked me to become their brand ambassador.
Shortly after, I caught the attention of international media outlets and was approached by the American Cake Decorating Magazine, the biggest cake magazine in the USA. They wanted me to write a tutorial article, which was featured in their March/April 2022 edition. In July 2022, I was invited to be a guest judge on the Tastemasters SA show, which aired in August 2022. Just before moving back to Vietnam, I was approached by Cake Masters UK, the largest cake and baking magazine in the UK, to submit a tutorial article for their October 2022 edition.
In 2023, I faced new challenges and opportunities that strengthened my passion for what I do best. We ended the year on a positive note with our cakes being featured in the Weddings in Houston Winter 2024 edition, Cake Masters Magazine - December 2023 edition, and was hosted on the Baking for Business Podcast.
Here I am in 2024, still following my passion and working hard to stay relevant and up-to-date with global trends in the competitive world of cakes. My caking journey continues, and this year I will be hard at work as I believe more exciting opportunities are on the horizon.
As a self-taught baker, my journey hasn't been easy, but what I know for sure is, this is just the beginning. I am incredibly grateful to each and every one of you for your constant encouragement and for pushing me beyond my limits. I can't thank you enough for all the love and support you have shown me in my journey so far. I love you all!
